Rangers are closing in on the signing of Albanian winger Eros Grezda for a fee of around £2million, according to the Evening Times.

The newspaper claim Light Blues boss Steven Gerrard is set to make the NK Osijek winger, 23, his 13th summer signing as his massive overhaul of the squad continues.

The Evening Times report Grezda has travelled to Glasgow to finalise a move to Rangers after the Daily Record reported he was granted permission to leave Osijek if the right offer is made.

Good move for Rangers?

Grezda has pedigree and some top-level experience, albeit in a relatively minor European league. Capped six times by Albania, the wide forward scored eight goals and supplied three assists for Osijek from 37 appearances last season, solid if far from eye-poppingly good statistics for a player who is predominantly used at right wing. Rangers are in need of a new recruit out wide after losing summer signing Jamie Murphy to a cruciate ligament knee injury that was a huge blow to their team’s hopes of breaking down defences this season. Osijek may take some time to hit the ground running, but could be a shrewd signing.

Likely to happen?

This deal is seemingly in the advanced stages as the Scottish giants once again work at breakneck speed to bring in another recruit. Rangers have already dealt with Croatian club Osijek after signing defender Borsa Barisic earlier in the window, and it appears another transfer between the clubs is now likely. Given Grezda has already travelled to Glasgow, only a few late mishaps can stop this deal going through.
