Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes remains confident that Celtic target Scott McKenna will stay at the club this summer.

Both Celtic and Championship side Swansea City are said to be interested in the player, who picked up an injury in the Dons 1-1 draw with Rangers on Sunday.

However McInnes believes the centre back isn’t going anywhere: “I think McKenna is in a good place here, he sees it that way and I don’t expect him to move any time soon,” he told the Scottish Sun.

“He’s not moving great anyway because of his hamstring. But I think he will be here with us [when] the window closes.”

Good move for Celtic?

Brendan Rodgers’ side aren’t exactly overrun with top quality centre halves at present, hence their interest in McKenna. The 21-year-old made 35 appearances for the Dons in all competitions last season, and has emerged as a talented Scotland international. His injury complicates things, of course, as does Swansea’s interest. Despite being in the Championship the Welsh outfit could probably still offer McKenna a more financially lucrative deal than the Scottish champions, making this a tough deal to get done for the Hoops. The lure of potential Champions League football would weigh heavily in Celtic’s favour, however. McKenna is a good player, in a position of need for the club, so it’s a deal worth exploring as long as the club aren’t too concerned by his hamstring injury.

Likely to happen?

As mentioned, the player’s injury throws a spanner in the works. The fact that Swansea are lurking, too, makes this a difficult deal to complete for Brendan Rodgers. While being a nice potential signing, Bhoys fans shouldn’t hold their breath on this one.
