West Brom centre-forward Salomon Rondon to scheduled to undergo a medical with Newcastle United next week, according to Venezuelan commentator Carlos Suarez.

The beIN SPORTS journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Saturday that Rondon, 28, is edging closer and closer to a move to St James’ Park, with only minor details and his medical to be finalised before the move is completed.

The Venezuela international was left out of West Brom’s matchday squad against Bolton on Saturday amid speculation surrounding his future at The Hawthorns.

Good move for Newcastle?

Rafa Benitez has clearly made signing a striker his priority for the summer, and it appears that he is about to get his man.

Rondon may not be the most exciting signing, but he is certainly an improvement to what Newcastle currently have up front after selling Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham.

With players like Ayoze Perez and Jonjo Shelvey helping Rondon in the middle and the crossing abilities of Matt Ritchie, Rondon should be able to get more goals with the Magpies that he did with Albion, however it should be known that he doesn’t create many chances for him to score himself.

Likely to happen?

Rondon should pass his medical fairly easily. He has not really had many injury issues at The Hawthorns so there should be no issue with that side of the deal.

It will be interesting to see if Dwight Gayle is included in the deal though as he was left out of the Newcastle squad against Augsburg on Saturday.
