Rangers full-back Myles Beerman has reached an agreement to join Maltese club Birkirkara on a season-long loan, according to the Times of Malta.

The newspaper claims on their website that Beerman, 19, had offers from the Scottish Championship, but has decided to return to his home nation and is expected to jet out to the Mediterranean island to seal his temporary move within the coming days.

It is understood that Gers manager Steven Gerrard has decided that the six-times Malta international will be sent out on loan before the end of the summer transfer window in order to aid his development.

Good move for Rangers?

Beerman is one of the better young prospects at Ibrox and has already made eight first team appearances for the senior side, so sending him out on loan so that his progress does not stall is a good idea.

However, sending him to Malta is just an odd decision.

If there were clubs in the Scottish Championship willing to take on the teenage full-back, then why wouldn’t Gerrard send him there?

The standard in Malta is probably worse that the lower leagues of Scottish football and he is probably not going to learn much more then than he would in Graeme Murty’s development side.

Likely to happen?

The Times of Malta appear to be pretty confident that this move will be finalised before the end of the working week.

It says a lot that Birkirkara are probably pulling off a bit of a coup to sign the young Ger, but Beerman probably wants to move back to Malta for a short while before really kicking on at Ibrox.
