Tottenham have lost out on young goalkeeper sensation Gavin Bazunu, according to an Insider.

Lilywhite Rose, a solid source of Tottenham news, had earlier claimed Spurs had bid £179k (€200) for the 16-year-old.

It was claimed he would stay at Shamrock until he had finished his education and then head to Tottenham.

However, Lilywhite Rose claims Spurs have now been outbid by Man City. The league leaders doubled Tottenham’s bid and it is claimed that Bazunu will move to the Etihad in February.

OPINION

Bazunu is a serious talent. He’s only 16 and he’s already broken into the Shamrock first team where he’s played twice in the Europa qualifiers. It had looked like Tottenham were set to seal his signature but they’ve found themselves outmanoeuvred and outbid by their Premier League rivals. If it came down to the money then fans are going to be fuming that Daniel Levy has lost out on a player who could go on to do big things for the sake of around £180k. It might be a big step up from the League of Ireland to the Premier League, but Bazunu has already got top-level experience under his belt. After a very disappointing summer, capturing Bazunu would have been a small consolation for Spurs fans – they don’t even have that now. If he does go on to fulfil his potential, this will be a deal that fans will look back at and say that Spurs should have tried harder.
