Tottenham have slashed the asking price of Danny Rose by £33million in order to sell him before the end of this month, according to Foot Sur 7.

The French website claim Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has lowered his valuation of the England international to £22million to facilitate his transfer by the 31 August cut-off.

Foot Sur 7 report Rose wants to leave Tottenham this summer and would rather join Paris Saint-Germain than Schalke.

The Independent claim the north London club wanted £55million for the left-back 12 months ago and Chelsea made progress on signing him for that sum last August.

OPINION

Selling Rose for £22million does not make any sense for Spurs. The defender has three years remaining on his contract and was in the England squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals last month. Sure, he has failed to recapture his form that preceded the January 2017 knee injury that sidelined him for nine months but Rose is a superior player to Ben Davies, who has usurped him as the first choice left-back at Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino does not have so many top-class players at his disposal that he can afford to jettison a proven Premier League performer who should be at his peak – Rose turned 28 last month – and can still make a big impact in the upcoming season. If Rose were to leave, it has been mooted that Spurs academy product Kyle Walker-Peters, who prefers playing right-back, and Jan Vertonghen, who is more suited to centre-back, could deputise for Davies. That would be illogical and an unnecessary risk from Tottenham, who look the third best equipped side in the Premier League to challenge for this season’s title. Selling Rose for a bargain fee would not aid that quest.
