Wolves are closing in on a deal for Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore, with a fee agreed and a medical scheduled for Monday, according to a Sky Sports journalist.

Keith Downie, the north east reporter for Sky Sports, claimed that Wolves would pay £10m upfront and more in instalments, and said the final figure could take the total cost over £20million.

He made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Sunday night.

Good move for Wolves?

It’s been a protracted one but it will undoubtedly be a good move for Wolves. Traore is finally starting to deliver on the promise that the young Barcelona player promised but failed to deliver as Aston Villa. In the last 19 games for Middlesbrough, Traore scored five goals and added eight assists, and there’s no reason why he can’t take his fast, direct game up to the Premier League and torment their defenders in the same way. The 22-year-old is set to make Middlesbrough a handsome profit if Downie’s figures are correct after paying just £7.5million for him from Villa. We think Traore is worth it though, despite some reservations from a section of Wolves fans.

Likely to happen?

Traore’s release clause was set at £18million, which should have made this deal relatively straightforward to complete, but it seems that Wolves didn’t want to pay all of that up front. That’s led to a deal of £10million up front and the rest in instalments, a practise which is becoming more common in the Premier League. However, with a fee seemingly agreed and a medical in place for Monday, Wolves should finally be able to announce Traore on Tuesday. That’s a huge boost ahead of the start of the Premier League season.
