Lyon are attempting to make a very late hijack after Everton reportedly agreed a deal for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, according to L’Equipe.

Yesterday, it appeared a deal was all but done with Everton as it was reported by ES Sport that they had agreed terms of a five-year contract with Mina.

The report claimed that the two clubs had agreed a fee of £28.4million on Sunday.

However, L’Equipe claim that Mina is open to the overtures from Lyon as they can offer Champions League football.

They are ready to pay £22.3million plus bonuses and are hoping their good relations with Barcelona will swing the deal their way.

OPINION

There’s always a bit of late drama with a big transfer and this report will give Everton fans a last-minute sweat. After seemingly beating Man United to Mina it looked like the path was clear for Everton to complete a really impressive deal for the 23-year-old. However, if the L’Equipe report is true, it’s not done and dusted with Mina himself open to a move to the French club. However, the offer in the L’Equipe report is significantly less than Everton’s and Mina was expected to sign on Monday for the Merseyside club. We’d be very surprised if the deal was derailed now, although it will be an anxious 24 hours for Everton fans. If they do get the deal over the line and bring Mina to Goodison it will be a huge boost for a club who havne’t enjoyed the best pre-season. Man United boss Jose Mourinho won’t be best pleased though and he’s already moaned his way through pre-season. However, if the deal spectacularly fell apart at the start of the open week of the Premier League, it would deliver a sizeable blow to Marco Silva and his side. All Everton fans can do now is cross their fingers and wait.
