A number of West Ham fans have taken to social media to slaughter the performance of striker Lucas Perez after he featured in the win over Wimbledon in the League Cup on Tuesday evening.

The Hammers survived a scare against the League One side as they found themselves behind from the second minute, before goals from Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Javier Hernandez secured Manuel Pellegrini’s first win as manager.

However, despite progressing to the next round, the fans were quick to tear into 29-year-old Perez on Twitter, making his first start since signing, for his display, with some of the Hammers faithful questioning whether he even played.

This is FutbolĀ has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

It is always a good idea to impress in your first proper outing for the club in a bid to get the fans on side but Perez is already fighting an uphill battle. His performance against Wimbledon has won him no supporters and the West Ham faithful have been brutal in their assessment. He needs to turn things around quickly if he wants to have a successful career in east London, for this display simply did not live up to standards. Thankfully for him it was in a game which did not matter too much in the greater scheme of things but there is still a level of performance that should be hit no matter the opposition, and Perez did not achieve that. Not the best start to a West Ham career, but as he gets minutes under his belt and a raucous Hammers crowd behind him, he should begin to show why he was brought in. If not, then his time at the club could prove to be very short indeed.
