Newcastle fans had something to get excited about on Thursday morning after a report claimed they had had a bid accepted for Anderlecht striker Isaac Thelin.

The bid was said to be for £6million for the Sweden international, and Belgian outlet HLN had said that Lokamtiv Moscow had tabled the same amount.

However, Mark Douglas from the Chronicle, has definitely quashed that report, saying there is “NO truth” in it and that Newcastle are looking elsewhere.

When a fan responded saying he was too expensive at £6million, Douglas replied that wasn’t the case, and that they were just not interested in the player.

OPINION

Yet another potential Newcastle transfer to write off for beleaguered fans but at least this one isn’t because of money – that makes a change this summer. The fact of the matter is that Newcastle will be linked with every available affordable striker between now and August 9th, when the transfer window shuts. And it’s not looking good for Newcastle at the moment, with worrying reports emerging that Salomon Rondon’s release clause has expired. Things look so bad at the moment that you can’t help but get the feeling Mike Ashley is trying everything he can to get Rafa Benitez to walk. That would be a disaster for Newcastle – far, far worse than not signing a striker. It’s not a great time to be a Newcastle fan, and you feel it will only get better when Ashley leaves. There can’t be a football supporter in the land – except maybe some Sunderland supporters – who won’t be glad to see him gone. Newcastle deserve so much better.
