Wolves took the Championship by storm last season and have begun their Premier League campaign with promise despite a 2-0 loss to Leicester City on Saturday.

If there was one player you had to pick out who has been central to their return to the big time it would be midfield lynchpin Ruben Neves, who has already make his mark in the top-flight with a brilliant free-kick last weekend.

Neves’ displays for Wolves have not gone unnoticed by the country’s top clubs, with several sides linked with a move for the 21-year-old this summer.

Despite the fact that the English window is closed, Neves is still being linked with a move away, and the latest rumour is a rather worrying one for the club.

As reported by The Sun, defending champions Manchester City are eyeing a £60million January move for Neves, with Pep Guardiola still on the hunt for a central midfielder after losing out on Jorginho to Chelsea.

Neves is known to be a big fan of Guardiola, previously commenting on his excitement about playing against City at the Etihad this season, and this news will therefore be even more worrying for Wolves.

However, if he wants to continue his upward career path then Neves must turn down this opportunity of a lifetime.

Joining City is a brilliant chance at immediate career success, with the Sky Blues favourites to win the title and will no doubt up there in the Champions League as well, but the sheer quality in their squad makes it a risky move.

Neves will suddenly go from being a big fish in a small(ish) pond to a small fish in the biggest pond in the country, and that brings with it some huge challenges.

The competition for places will no doubt see him remain on the bench a lot for City, and to go from being a key player at Wolves to a squad player at City will be a mistake.

Obviously Wolves fans will want him to stay and Neves must unfortunately turn City down if he wants to continue his path to the top – opportunities like this will still come but he needs more time to develop.
