Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is undertaking a medical at Everton on Thursday (9 August) after the Toffees managed to file the paperwork over a loan swoop before the transfer deadline, according to journalist Chris Bascombe.

The Telegraph writer claims on his personal Twitter account that the Merseyside outfit had managed to get the necessary papers to allow a temporary move to go through before 5pm on Thursday, and that the French international is going through tests before a deal is completed.

Zouma was on loan at Stoke City last summer but was unable to prevent their relegation, and has 81 Premier League appearances under his belt.

Opinion

After a slow start to the summer for Marco Silva, it appears as though he has left all his business to the final hours of the window – not that the Everton faithful will mind. A swoop for Zouma brings some much needed fresh blood to the heart of the defence and he should be able to form a powerful partnership with the likes of Yerry Mina, who Barcelona confirmed will also be making a move to Goodison Park this summer. With Ashley Williams out the door, Zouma can take the place of the Welsh international and be the imposing brute at the back. It was an exciting final day for the Toffees and the Blues man joining the party is the icing on the cake. Now it is time for all the new arrivals to bed in and get ready for what will be a demanding Premier League campaign. Zouma will be hoping it does not end like his last.
