West Ham midfielder Domingos Quina is at the training ground of Premier League rivals Watford to hold last-ditch talks over a potential deadline day exit, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their official Twitter account and live transfer blog (09/08, 17:48) that the 19-year-old has travelled to the Hornets with a deal sheet having been submitted over a proposed move to Vicarage Road, with a deal having to be completed before the 7pm deadline.

Quina, who has just a year left on his contract at the London Stadium, is a highly rated defensive playmaker and has six appearances for the Irons’ first team under his belt so far.

Opinion

It appears as though the Hammers are set to cash in on Quina instead of letting him go for nothing next summer, but the fact a direct rival of theirs in the shape of Watford are in the hunt for his capture shows they are losing a talented young starlet. Why the Irons have not snapped him up to a new contract, only those in the boardroom at the London Stadium know, but the fact of the matter is it does not look like a good bit of business. They will be hoping his exit does not come back to bite them but considering how highly rated he is for both club and country, with appearances for Portugual’s under-20 side, that seems unlikely. Still, football is a business and letting him go for nothing would have been a worse decision, so they will have to swallow this bitter pill and move on.
