The agent of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has pleaded with the club to accept an offer from Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old joined the Stamford Bridge outfit in 2011 from Belgian side Genk before being loaned out to Atletico Madrid, he then returned to his parent club and has become a regular fixture between the sticks.

As reported by the Sun, the Blues are refusing to negotiate with Real Madrid over the £40m-rated ‘keeper.

The report also claims that Courtois, who earns £120,000-per-week at Chelsea (Spotrac), has already told the London club of his wish to relocate to Spain to be closer to his family.

Christophe Henrotay, the player’s agent, has called on the club to let Courtois leave this summer.

“I have been reading everywhere that Chelsea are saying it is up to Thibaut, but he has made it clear to the club that the best option for him is to move to Madrid,’ Henrotay told the Sun.

“For him this is a big decision because he wants to be near his family, and there is an offer in place for Chelsea to accept.”

OPINION

There is no point in Chelsea trying to keep the goalkeeper when he so clearly wants to leave. It’s not even necessary to do with money or moving to a bigger club, it’s due to family reasons, so the club will have to be a bit more understanding and just take the money that’s reportedly on the table from Real Madrid. They need to do this quickly as the transfer window will shut in just six days time and they need to find a suitable replacement. The reported fee of £40million for Courtois should be enough for the Blues to bring in a quality ‘keeper, like Jack Butland from Stoke City for example, who would be a more than able replacement and should be available for some way below what they will receive for the Belgian. Keeping the 26-year-old doesn’t make sense for either party as he can leave for free next summer, so they need to cash in while they still can.
