Newcastle United have resumed talks with West Brom over signing striker Salomon Rondon – and Dwight Gayle could still head the other way in part-exchange, according to reliable journalist Lee Ryder.

The reliable sports journalist claimed via his official Twitter account on Saturday that the Venezuelan, 28, could sign for the Magpies, with current Newcastle forward Dwight Gayle swapping places as part of the mooted deal.

After the move looked unlikely due to the two clubs struggling to find an agreement, the Daily Mail claim on their website that talks have been revived and Rondon and Gayle are possibly part of a loan swap although Gayle is not interested in moving to the Championship.

Good move for Newcastle?

Newcastle have been desperate for a prolific striker who can guarantee the supporters with ten to 15 goals a season.

Rondon scored ten goals for the Baggies last season and, after Newcastle sold Aleksandar Mitrovic for £22 million, should consider paying big money to bring Rondon to St James’ Park.

Many fans would agree that Gayle is a proven Championship striker but seems to be someone who just cannot step up in the top flight, scoring just six league goals last season.

Likely to happen?

The move has been stretched out for a long time and supporters are getting frustrated that the club are not making any big transfers.

They have brought in Yoshinori Muto but there is no guarantee that the Japanese forward will succeed due to having zero experience in England.

West Brom may struggle to afford Gayle’s wages, with the Englishman currently on £40,000 per week at Newcastle and may prefer not to purchase the striker.
