As Bayern Munich officially confirm that Arturo Vidal is joining FC Barcelona, this is the type of signing Tottenham should be making.

German club Bayern announced the news that Vidal is joining the Spanish giants on their official Twitter account.

As reported by the Mirror, the fee for the Chilean midfield maestro is £27million, which is an absolute bargain for a player of his calibre.

This is the type of signing Tottenham should be making if they want to become a genuine giant in European football, as they’re some way from that at the moment.

It’s astonishing that a club the size of Spurs haven’t signed a single player in this summers transfer window so far and there are only six days to go until the window shuts, they need to get a move on if they are to improve on last year.

Even if the North London club feel that they have enough for next season, their rivals have all strengthened around them and they risk being left behind in the title race. Where is their ambition? Do they really want to be in the race to be Premier League champions next season? It seems not.

Arturo Vidal was available this summer. He’s an extremely talented midfielder who is a born winner, he is a player who could make the difference for a club like Spurs against their other rivals. That bit of extra quality that sees them go from aiming for the Champions League qualification spots to title challenger.

Surely Daniel Levy could have parted with £27million if it means they could have got a player like Vidal. It seems like there’s no transfer strategy, no backup options, they’ve been negotiating with players all summer but have got nowhere.

If Spurs really want to become the club they say they do, then they need to start improving their squad now before it’s too late.
