West Ham right-back Sam Byram is edging closer to joining Nottingham Forest on loan, according to Nottingham Post reporter Paul Taylor.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that there is one final stumbling block that needs to be overcome before the 24-year-old’s temporary exit from the London Stadium is wrapped up.

As it is a loan deal, it is understood that it does not matter if the transfer is now completed by the end of deadline day.

Good move for West Ham?

Byram is hardly going to get any game-time in the upcoming season so it makes a lot of sense to not only send him out on loan so his career does not stall, but to also help the club financially.

West Ham have spent big this summer and must take whatever precaution they can to avoid overspending, so getting Byram off their wagebill for the season is a good idea.

According to statistics website Spotrac, the former Leeds right-back is earning £30,000-a-week at the London Stadium, so sending him out on loan will surely see Forests cover some, if not all of those wages.

Likely to happen?

The loan window for EFL clubs does not close until August 31, so Forest have plenty of time to iron out all the necessary details before concluding their business.

Byram will be a good signing for them so Aitor Karanka is bound to want this deal to be wrapped up.
