There will be anger in the stands at Tottenham when the summer window slams shut, with promises of new arrivals from Daniel Levy not being kept.

With just over an hour to go until the market comes to a close, the Lilywhites are without a single new face among their squad, despite rumours circulating all through the off-season about who might be joining Mauricio Pochettino and his men.

One man who appeared destined to make the switch to north London was Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, with talks said to have been held both before and after the takeover in the middle of the club’s financial crisis.

Now the Mirror have claimed that Villa have turned down a £25million bid before deadline day, and state that a much bigger offer is needed to prise him away.

As if that was not enough pressure for Levy and Pochettino, the report also states that the Championship outfit are preparing to hand Grealish an improved contract to extend his stay at Villa Park and give him move than the £20,000-a-week he is currently on.

A new contract means that it is now or never for Spurs if they truly want Grealish, for his value will skyrocket once pen is put to paper on new terms, and if Levy was not willing to pay their asking price now, then he sure will not be splashing the cash in a year’s time.

Much work has been done on this move and it requires a hefty fee to be sealed, but if Tottenham miss out now, they might not get another chance at this price.
