Tottenham forward Reo Griffiths is due to undergo a medical at Lyon this afternoon (Wednesday) as he edges closer to leaving North London, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper has claimed on their website that Griffiths, 18, has been “wowed” by a long-term deal than has been offered to him by the Ligue 1 giants, even though he had the option to sign a three-year professional deal with Spurs.

It is understood that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in signing the 5ft 9in (transfermarkt) forward, however Lyon have won the race with his move now on the verge of completion.

Good move for Tottenham?

Griffiths was in sensational form in Spurs’ youth teams last season as he managed to score 27 goals in 20 Under-18s Premier League matches. Four of those came in a 9-0 hammering of Arsenal’s youth team, making the teenager an instant hit with the Lilywhites fans.

It is certainly a major blow for Mauricio Pochettino to lose one of the best young players in his squad as he is not the first to quit this summer as Noni Madueke has joined PSV.

Pochettino will be hoping that this is not the start of a mass exodus of teenagers leaving the club, but they may all be tempted to follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho, who quit Manchester City last summer and has since become a first team player at Borussia Dortmund.

Likely to happen?

Reports in both England and France have now been claiming that Griffiths is on his way to Lyon and the deal certainly seems as though it is going to go through at some point.

With his medical on Wednesday, the move should be wrapped up fairly soon.
