Swansea City are in talks with Brentford about a possible deal for playmaker Ryan Woods, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims on their website that the Swans have made an initial offer for the 24-year-old that has been rejected by the Bees, who will not sell Woods for anything short of his valuation.

Speculation has continued to rise after Wales Online revealed the transfer target was unable to attend Brentford’s open day at Griffin Park through illness.

The Welsh side are seeking a replacement for club legend Leon Britton, who announced his retirement at the end of last season.

Woods has made 127 appearances for the London-based club after joining from Shrewsbury in 2015, is valued at £6 million with Brentford likely to sell at the correct price.

Good move for Swansea?

After Leon Britton’s retirement, the Swans remain in desperate need for a midfielder.

Woods, who was voted club supporters’ player of the year last season, can offer the Welsh club vital Championship experience in order to attempt an immediate return to the Premier League.

Nicknamed the ‘Ginger Pirlo’, Woods has been a solid performer for Brentford and could certainly thrive in Swansea’s side under the new appointment of manager Graham Potter.

Likely to happen?

Swansea will not be the only team calling for Woods’ services and will have to act quickly if they are to lure the 24-year-old to Wales before the closing of the transfer window.

Woods would be a great addition and certainly somebody who could follow in the footsteps of Britton, who has left a huge hole in the football club after retiring.

After failing to turn up to Brentford’s open day, there is a possibility that Woods could be keen to complete a move away from Greater London.
