Swansea City manager Graham Potter confirmed that there was interest in winger Nathan Dyer but that he was training with the Welsh side.

The Swans boss shared that the club were currently working out what the best option was for the 30-year-old, who currently earns £32,000-a-week (Spotrac), and that the player has remained professional throughout.

The Sun previously reported that Dyer was a target for Championship rivals Reading as Paul Clement wanted to sign the player on loan in order to bolster his squad with pace.

“There is interest and we are trying to see what the best option is,” said Potter in his press conference on Monday ahead of his side’s game against Leeds United,  as quoted by Wales Online.

“He trained today, at this stage there are options for people to look if there are better solutions but he has trained well and is part of the group.

“If there is something better for him and the club then we can look into it.

“But it’s not the end of the road for everyone, the same with Wayne, he has had interest but is part of the group.

“They are available for selection and he has been very professional. You wait for the chance and try to take it when it comes.”

OPINION

It seems Dyer’s move to Reading isn’t guaranteed to happen though given that Potter has openly moved to talk about the interest, shows there is a real chance that the winger is packing his bags. The 30-year-old has played 311 times for the Swans and it will be sad to see the player depart as he served the club well in the past. However given his lucrative wage and the fact that Potter is aiming to implement his own style on the Swans then clearly high-profile exits were always bound to happen. Dyer could still end up sticking around at the Liberty Stadium based on Potters’ remarks but perhaps it’s for the best that the Swans sacrificed him in order to cut their wage bill. Hopefully if Dyer exits it will lead to new faces arriving at the Swans before the loan window shuts at the end of the month. Potter is in need of several midfielders being recruited as the club are currently look short in that department.
