Middlesbrough are edging closer to signing Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic with a deal all but done for the Bosnian to head to the Riverside on loan, according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that Besic, 25, held talks with Boro at their Rockliffe training ground on Sunday night, but has had to return to Merseyside to iron out an issue with the Toffees first.

Besic is not the only Everton player edging closer to joining Middlesbrough as Downie also claims that Yannick Bolasie is currently undergoing talks with Tony Pulis in the North East and could join the Championship club on a season-long loan with the option to be made permanent.

Good move for Everton?

Besic is well down the pecking order at Goodison Park and Marco Silva’s decision to leave him out of the first two games of the season against Wolves and Southampton prove that his time is better spent elsewhere.

The 25-year-old’s career at Everton looks to have hit a wall and it would be best for all parties if he was to leave on a permanent deal.

However as Championship clubs can only sign players on loan up until the end of August, and he has another three years left on his contract, a temporary agreement appears to be the only option.

Everton will probably hope that Middlesbrough get promoted with Besic in their side so they can afford to make he deal permanent next year, and if they do then it would be a good bit of business for an unneeded player on Merseyside.

Likely to happen?

With a deal in principle agreed upon then it looks very likely that Besic will be back for a second spell with Boro very soon.

He did well under Pulis last season and it is no shock that the Welshman has gone back in for the ex-Hamburg midfielder.

Him and Bolasie will be good signings for the Riversiders and should put themselves in contention for promotion if they are able to flourish in the North East.
