Tottenham have made a blunder by allowing Ryan Loft to leave and join Leicester City.

The 2015-16 Premier League champions have made a virtue of finding value in the transfer market in recent seasons and could be about to do so again after reportedly agreeing terms with the striker.

Sky Sports claim on their website that Loft, 20, has settled a two-year Leicester deal after being released by Spurs at the end of last month.

The Foxes have made some shrewd moves in the transfer market this summer by signing Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans and James Maddison for their senior squad.

They have also turned their attention to the future by sealing a deal for Loft, who will link up with their development squad rather than go straight into their first team set-up.

The centre-forward was a regular for the various Tottenham youth teams during his five years at the club after joining from Ebbsfleet United in the summer of 2013.

His combination of height, power and craft – his combination play is particularly impressive – helped the Under-23s secure some significant victories and he was improving steadily up until his departure.

Perhaps the Spurs coaches were put off by his lower league club loans to Stevenage, Braintree and Exeter failing to yield a glut of goals.

But that is not unusual for young strikers when in their teens – just ask Harry Kane – and the lack of patience with Loft could lead to egg in the faces of those running the club’s academy.

Spurs’ loss is Leicester’s gain and they should soon benefit from their foresight in handing the rising star an extended contract.
