Sheffield United and West Brom are lining up bids for Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe, according to Football Insider.

The football site claim the Championship big hitters are in “hot pursuit” of the versatile 25-year-old, who was United’s top scorer with 14 goals last season.

Football Insider report Sheffield United and West Brom are keeping close tabs on Roofe and are ready to test Leeds’ resolve to hang on to one of their key first teamers.

Good move for Leeds?

Selling Roofe would only be good business if Leeds made a significant profit on the player they bought from Oxford United for around £3million and if they replaced him with a superior player. Those are two key ‘ifs’ and it remains to be seen how far Sheffield United and West Brom are willing to go to land someone who is proven in the Championship after playing regularly for two years at that level. Leeds should be wary of letting go of someone who is entering his peak and is capable of being a matchwinner. He does drift in and out of matches, but his goal return is improving and he can play in a number of positions. Offloading first-team regulars is a precarious business.

Likely to happen?

With no bid yet tabled, it is early days in the battle to prise Roofe from Elland Road. The story could well be leaked by the player’s camp in order to push United’s top brass to offer him a new contract. There is no need to start binning Roofe replica shirts quite yet.
