Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish is set to join Tottenham by the time they depart for their tour of USA on 22 July, according to Football London

The Trinity Mirror site claim Spurs are homing in on the former England Under-21 international as they look to increase their quota of home-grown senior players.

Football London report that Tottenham want Grealish, 22, to link up with their squad in time for the three-match trip to the States, where they are scheduled to face European giants Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan.

Good move for Tottenham?

Yes. Grealish is not everyone’s cup of tea, after his late-night antics attracted more tabloid attention than was healthy in his late teens and after turning 20. But he has started to live up to the hype in recent times, with Steve Bruce pointing out how much more professional he was last season. As any regular Villa observer will attest, Grealish did more than any other player to push the club over the promotion finish line before their dreams ended and the financial precipice neared in the immediate wake of the play-off final defeat at Wembley. Spurs would be getting a fine attacking midfielder capable of becoming a mighty good one.

Likely to happen?

Given that Villa owner and chief executive Tony Xia has admitted his club will have to cash in on their prize assets in order to meet financial fair play regulations, it is inevitable that Grealish will leave his boyhood club this summer. Will he head to Spurs? That appears likely, although even the cash-strapped Midlands giants will surely not sell for less than £25million.
