Steven Gerrard confirmed that Bruno Alves’ contract had been terminated by mutual agreement.
Talking to the BBC Gerrard said: “Bruno Alves’ contract has been terminated mutually.
“It doesn’t open the door for me to go and sign more players. The board of directors have been very supportive. I knew we needed to make changes and they’ve backed me so far.”
Alves only lasted one month at Ibrox where the 36-year-old played just 25 games and scored two goals.
It wasn’t a big success for the veteran international, who recently played out in Russia with Portugal in the World Cup finals.
It is now reported that he will move to the slightly calmer Serie A where he will sign on a free transfer for Parma.
However, many Rangers fans still have a lot of respect for the centre-back and paid their respects on Twitter.

OPINION
Bruno Alves is exactly the sort of player that you won’t see Steven Gerrard signing. With Gerrard it’s about young, fast, powerful players, who know the Scottish game inside out. That’s said with no disrespect to Alves who is still a brilliant footballer – it’s just that the Premiership isn’t the place for him. He’ll do well for a couple of years at Serie A and Gerrard can get on with trying to catch Celtic. Most Rangers fans have still got the utmost respect for Alves too and wish him luck in his new voyage. Terminating his contract works out the best for everyone with his wages off the club’s escalating bill.
