Wolverhampton Wanderers are plotting to trigger Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore’s release clause, according to the Independent.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Molineux-based outfit are wanting to trigger the 22-year-old’s release clause in order to beat rivals Huddersfield to land his signature.

Both clubs have made their interest known to Boro, who are not attracted to the idea of offloading their speedster as boss Tony Pulis views him as one of the players who can help him guide the team back in to the Premier League.

However, the ‘diamond in the rough’ may have no choice if Wolves end up offering the £18 million needed to begin talks with the 5″6 (source: Transfermarkt) Spaniard.

Good move for Wolves?

Yes, definitely. Traore would be a stunning coup for boss Nuno Espirito Santo and his team, and triggering his release clause ahead of Huddersfield puts them firmly ahead in the queue to sign him.

The Spain under-21 international is known for his pace and dribbling skill, an asset Nuno will appreciate highly if talks can start over a transfer.

Wolves need to sign another attacking player, so this news will undoubtedly be a relief to fans.

Likely to happen?

Yes, it is likely to happen now Wolves are considering triggering his release clause. This is a major step forward in negotiating a transfer, and they needed to edge ahead of the Terriers to sign him.

It will depend on whether Traore will want to move away from the Riverside Stadium, but the lure of Premier League football at Wolves might just do the trick.

Wolves will now be hoping that this will now materialise into talks, if it is true that they are planning on paying the buy-out clause.
