West Ham are close to signing Paraguay international Fabian Balbuena from Brazilian giants Corinthians, according to South American journalist Cesar Luis Merlo.

The TYC Sports and Super Deportivo reporter claimed via his personal Instagram and Twitter account on Friday that the Hammers have agreed a fee to sign Balbuena, 26, from Corinthians.

It is understood that 6ft 2in (transfermarkt) centre-back will sign a four-year deal at the London Stadium.

Good move for West Ham?

Balbuena is completely untested outside of South American, but that does not mean that he will not do well for the Hammers.

Manuel Pellegrini will know everything there is to know about the 26-year-old and fans should trust the Chilean’s judgement when it comes to signing these kinds of players.

Balbuena has been key for Corinthians in recent years and has worn the captain’s armband for them at times appearing 14 times so far in the 2018 season across all competitions.

Will be be any good for West Ham? It’s hard to tell, but as mentioned, Pellegrini must be trusted.

Likely to happen?

According to this journalist the deal appears to be all but done with a contract and fee both agreed with Balbuena and Corinthians.

It all seems to have come from anywhere but taking this story as what it is, it looks like it could be wrapped up fairly soon.
