Tottenham have won the race to sign Aston Villa dazzler Jack Grealish, who is now waiting for the Premier League club to table an “irresistible” bid to sign him, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [07:17pm] that Daniel Levy is waiting for the perfect time to take advantage of Villa’s financial crisis before making a move to sign the 22-year-old midfielder.

It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino wants Grealish, who is known for his mesmeric dribbling technique, to challenge Dele Alli for his spot in the starting line-up and a five-year deal is ready to be offered that will see his current £20,000-a-week wage packet “rocket”.

Good move for Tottenham?

Grealish has been in good form for Aston Villa over the last year, even though his progress has been halted by a serious kidney injury.

Steve Bruce has really got the best out of the 22-year-old, but there is a massive gulf between where Villa have been playing in the Championship to where Spurs currently are.

There is no way that Grealish will be able to challenge Alli for a spot in the starting line-up and it seems that Spurs may just be trying to sign him to add another young English player and stop him from signing for a rival club.

It will be a shock to see him get more than a handful of Premier League and Champions League starts next season.

Likely to happen?

It certainly seems that way and Levy will play the waiting game for Villa to drop their asking price.

The West Midlands club cannot afford to dictate how much their start players will be signed for this summer due to their financial crisis.

As the transfer window drags out, they will have to drop their expectations and that is when Levy will make his move.
