Everton could be dealt a potential blow in their pursuit of the Portugal international William Carvalho, as Real Betis’ club president has confirmed that the La Liga outfit are conducting talks with the midfielder.

It was reported last month by The Mirror that Carvalho is on Everton’s radar with the Merseyside club keeping tabs on his contract situation after the 26-year-old was one of a number of Sport Lisbon stars attempting to terminate their contracts following some shocking fan violence.

However, it now seems that the odds are stacked against the Toffees in landing the midfield enforcer, who impressed at this year’s World Cup in Russia, and Marco Silva must move now to land him.

Real Betis’s president Serra Ferrer has stated in a press conference that there has been contact made from the La Liga club, and the team and player are currently undergoing negotiations.

“Yes, we are negotiating with William Carvalho. It is difficult because he is a good player, but we are hoping to sign him. He is a player that gives great value to the squad,” Ferrer said, as quoted by Marca.

Marco Silva should be looking for some new legs at Goodison Park, after inheriting a mix-up squad containing players from both Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce.

Carvalho is exactly the player who can steady the Toffees midfield, which will then give the team a platform upon which to construct free-flowing attacking football.

Silva msut move as soon as possible if they are to secure the future of their midfield, as Carvalho’s move to Real Betis is looking more and more likely.
