Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy must give the green light to Mauricio Pochettino to go out and sign Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze this summer, with the club reportedly monitoring his situation.

According to football.london, Spurs are in hot pursuit of Gotze, 26, this summer as the Germany international could be available for just £18million.

It’s not everyday that a World Cup winner is available for such a decent price and given the fact that Pochettino needs to add to his midfield before the start of next season, wrapping up a deal for Gotze would make perfect sense.

The former Bayern Munich ace has had his injury issues in the past.

Last season he had several short spells on the sidelines with different issues.

However he did show last term that he was able to play more regularly as he appeared 32 times across all competitions, scoring two goals and supplying seven assists in the process.

Gotze has shown signs that he is getting over his injury woes and his £18million price-tag is bound to rocket in the near future if he stays at Dortmund and continues to play well.

Pochettino could do with a player like him in his team as currently his central midfield options are not the strongest and are bound to be weakened if Mousa Dembele leaves.

Gotze would be able to play a more deeper-lying playmaker role behind Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, or Pochettino could see the 2014 World Cup winner as a back-up option to the pair and add more competition for places.

Either way, at £18million, he is not someone that Levy and Pochettino should be shying away from signing and they must try to get a deal done this summer.
