West Brom’s hopes of signing Rangers’ clinical attacker Josh Windass appear to have taken a killer blow after it was reported that the 24-year-old is due to join a Premier League club within the coming weeks.

The Daily Mail reported via their live transfer blog on Tuesday [01:20pm] that the Baggies, Aston Villa, West Ham and Burnley are all in the race to sign Windass this summer, with the Gers valuing the attacking midfielder at £3million.

It was understood that bids for the former Accrington Stanley ace were expected to be lower than £3million, even though he was Rangers’ joint-top goalscorer last season with 18 goals across all competitions.

West Brom are yet to add to their attack this summer and Windass would have been a cheap addition for Darren Moore, who appears to be doing his business on a deal-by-deal basis.

However it looks as though Albion’s hopes of signing the Ibrox star have been dashed already with Rock Sport Radio presenter Bill Young claiming via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night that he is set for a move to the Premier League within the coming weeks.

West Ham and Burnley were linked with Windass, so either the London Stadium or Turf Moor now appear to be the most likely destination for the 24-year-old – not The Hawthorns.

Windass would have been a very good signing for West Brom.

Although he has had issues with finding consistency, like Martyn Waghorn, he would have left Rangers and would have been a hit in the Championship.

He scored goals for fun last season and will be missed by the Light Blues fans once he leaves Ibrox.

However it is back to the drawing board for Moore, who needs to start making concrete efforts to finding a replacement for players who could leave soon, like Nacer Chadli and Salomon Rondon.
