A section of West Brom fans on Twitter are loving the prospect of potentially signing Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood this summer.

The Daily Mail reported on their live transfer blog on Thursday [01:26pm] that the Baggies are joined by Celtic, Southampton, Cardiff and Stoke in the race to sign Westwood, 33, as Sheffield Wednesday are willing to cash in on him to streamline their budget.

The Republic of Ireland international made just 18 Championship appearances last season as he dropped down the pecking order at Hillsborough and even though West Brom have already signed goalkeepers Sam Johnstone and Jonathan Bond this summer, some fans believe that the 6ft 2in Owls stopper would make a good addition.

OPINION

West Brom goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler reportedly wants three goalkeepers in the squad for next season, and after missing out on Sheffield United’s Simon Moore, it appears Albion may want Westwood from the Steel City instead. These fans clearly believe that Westwood would fit into the squad at The Hawthorns and make a solid challenge for the No 1 spot in Darren Moore’s first team. Johnstone is at the moment the main man between the sticks, but Westwood would certainly challenge that due to his years of Championship experience. The Ireland international would be a great signing for the Baggies, but they must get in some outfield players first.
