Celtic and Southampton are among a clutch of clubs in the hunt to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Thursday [01:26pm] that West Brom, Stoke and Premier League newboys Cardiff are also interested in signing the 21-times Republic of Ireland international.

It is understood that the 6ft 2in (transfermarkt) shot-stopper has been made available for a move away from Hillsborough this summer as the Owls aim to streamline their budget.

Good move for Celtic?

Westwood has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship in the last few years and would be a very good addition for Celtic – but they really do not need to sign him.

He has kept 82 clean sheets in 270 Championship appearances and has only roughly conceded one goal per game.

Brendan Rodgers has already picked up Scott Bain this summer and also has Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries on the books at Parkhead.

While Westwood is perhaps as good as and if not better than the Hoops trio, it just would not make sense to go after him having already signed one goalkeeper and there is practically no chance that Gordon will be leaving.

Likely to happen?

No chance.

Celtic already have three goalkeepers and with the amount of interest from other clubs across England, there is more of a chance that he will join them.

West Brom are reportedly on the look out for another goalkeeper to add to their ranks and are probably the most likely destination for Westwood but Celtic? Absolutely not.
