A section of West Brom fans were left blown away by free agent James Morrison after his goalscoring display in a pre-season friendly against Barnsley on Tuesday night helped the Baggies to a 3-2 win.

Despite going two goals behind, Hal Robson-Kanu, Morrison and an own goal by Dimitri Cavare rounded off an impressive comeback by Darren Moore’s side.

Scotland international Morrison is currently a free agent after his deal at The Hawthorns expired at the end of last season, however he has been allowed to continue training with West Brom and has played a part in their pre-season friendlies.

And now, some Baggies fans have been calling on the Black Country club to offer the 32-year-old a new contract.

OPINION

Morrison is obviously a very popular player among the West Brom fans and they can be forgiven for getting excited about the Scotland international’s return to the scoresheet against Barnsley, but this is a player who played just six times across all competitions last season. He has not played a competitive game since September and an issue with his Achilles could cause all kinds of trouble down the line. Not to mention, Morrison is now 32-years-old and there are surely younger, fitter players that Moore should be looking at first. If Albion can get Morrison tied down on a cut-price deal, it would be a good idea, but he should not really be a first team player next term.
