Rangers have terminated the contract of Harry Forrester and the 27-year-old winger has left Ibrox by mutual consent, according to the Scottish Sun, and it’s the right move for the club and for the player.

Forrester had been rumoured to be on the verge of an exit after falling down the pecking order since his move from Doncaster in January 2016.

He has become a forgotten man at Ibrox after being shipped off to Wimbledon on loan last season and he was told that he had no part to play in the new Steven Gerrard revolution.

He hasn’t featured in the league for Rangers since March 2017, although he was a mainstay for Wimbledon last season, and must have known the writing was on the wall after Pedro Caixinha told him he wasn’t part of his plans.

He signed under Mark Warburton and in brief glimpses showed he might have the talent and attacking nous to forge out a career at Rangers.

He scored eight goals in his 44 games, and helped Rangers get back into the Premiership, but the step up was too much and in the end he just wasn’t good enough to make the grade.

The chances are he’ll find a club in League One where he can continue his career in England but the former England Under-17 international will be disappointed that his career hasn’t hit the heights he must have once dreamed of.
