Rangers have ripped up defender Fabio Cardoso’s contract and the player has left Ibrox by mutual consent, according to the Scottish Sun.

The 24-year-old signed from Vitória Setúbal in a £1.35million deal under Pedro Caixinha and only made 18 appearances for the club and he’s yet another colossal waste of money.

Caixinha was one hell of an expensive mistake. It quickly became apparent that he was massively out of his depth at Ibrox and was replaced by caretaker Graeme Murty.

But Rangers are still paying the price and with big investments made by Steven Gerrard and Mark Allen this summer, Rangers will need to get results this summer.

In addition to Cardoso, Rangers have wasted £2.7million on Carlos Pena who has gone out on loan in Mexico until December. Rangers might hope to get something back on him, but they won’t get anywhere near the money they spent.

Pena only made 14 appearances and scored five goals – over £500k a goal.

They also spent £1.5million on Eduardo Herrera and he’s been sent on loan after making 24 uninspiring performances for the club.

Thankfully, Rangers seem to be back on track now and in Gerrard and McAllister they’ve finally got a team who seem to know what sort of players Rangers need.

The defence has been massively improved, with Conor Goldson solid at the back, and more importantly they’re not paying over the odds for unknown quantities.

Caixinha, on the other hand, might go down as one of the worst – and definitely one of the most expensive – Rangers managers in recent history.
