Rangers fans have delivered mainly positive reactions on Twitter following the news that the club had submitted a £3 million bid for Millwall defender Jake Cooper.

Football Insider reports that a host of English clubs were interested in the services of the 23-year-old, and the Scottish outfit have now reportedly tested Millwall’s resolve by submitting a bid for the 6’5″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus, who impressed after arriving from fellow Championship outfit Reading last summer.

This news was met with promising responses by the Gers’ faithful, who have seen their manager make a staggering eight signings in the window already. These comments included “hope we get him, need options at CB” and “surely he’d be a starter.”

OPINION

Rangers tabling a bid for Cooper has certainly gone down well with the supporters, as it shows boss Steven Gerrard’s intent to change the club’s fortunes around, having already made eight signings this summer. The Millwall centre-back will be a towering presence in the box, and is sure to be a lethal threat from set pieces because of his height, a quality which Gerrard will already be aware of. Not many defenders stand at this height, and his potential arrival will surely be the envy of his rivals. He only signed for Millwall last summer, but has already impressed the Gers manager, who is undoubtedly keen to stamp his mark on the squad following his arrival. If Gerrard does pull off this deal, then he will bridge the gap between his club and Celtic even further as he challenges for the Scottish title. Having already acquired defender Connor Goldson from Brighton, Rangers’ back four will look formidable.
