Leeds United are lagging behind their Championship rivals in the summer window thanks to their prolonged managerial hunt – and it is time for Marcelo Bielsa to step up his game and get some new recruits through the doors.

There is little doubt that the Whites faithful will be disappointed at just one senior arrival – the loan capture of Lewis Baker – after the disappointing campaign they were forced to endure by their team last season.

It was clear to see by those watching on that the squad at Elland Road needed a serious boost in quality if they were to ever achieve their ambitions of a top-six finish and a potential return to the Premier League and while they might have got some serious calibre in the dugout, they need it on the pitch.

Journalist Phil Hay has claimed that a new arrival could be imminent, with Bielsa said to be hoping to bring in a new goalkeeper to battle with Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Andy Lonergan before the end of the week – Chelsea Jamal Blackman and Birmingham City’s David Stockdale named as potential arrivals.

However, if it is a shot stopper he wants, then the Argentinian boss may have had his ears pricked by news coming out from north of the border.

The Scottish Sun are claiming that Rangers are ready to let Wes Foderingham depart the club after falling to third choice at Ibrox, despite having been a regular in the first team with 37 appearances last season – and he would be ideal for Leeds.

The fact he is up for sale gives the Whites some room to negotiate, and with Bielsa likely to be working off a stringent budget, every penny saved helps.

Experience in England with Swindon, as well as Scotland’s top flight, means he is no stranger to what to expect were he to make the move back down south, and at 27-years-old, he has age on his side as well as possessing the know how.

He would be a smart signing for Bielsa, and it is likely Foderingham would be receptive to a move to a Championship side – a win-win for everyone.
