Rangers could just have moved a step closer to signing AS Roma striker Umar Sadiq with the news that he will become a Gers player in time for Monday’s Europa League wildcard deadline, according to a club insider.

EstConsultancy, who regularly breaks accurate transfer information regarding the Light Blues was asked by a supporter whether a deal for the forward would be completed in time for the deadline and their response was an emphatic, “Yes.”

Gers boss Steven Gerrard has been targeting the Serie A target man for the last couple of weeks as he seeks to improve his options going into the new season.

OPINION:

To have Sadiq in the ranks in time for the European campaign will be a huge bonus for the club, who aside from Alfredo Morelos, look short up top. The little Colombian and large 6ft 2in (source: Transfermarkt) Nigerian could prove to be a tasty partnership should Gerrard look to play two up front as defenders will have to cope with the combination of strength, speed and finishing ability of the duo. Sadiq impressed last season when he spent time on loan with Dutch side NAC Breda, scoring five goals and three assists in 12 games in the Eredivisie. But showing that he is no flat-track bully, the lofty forward registered against champions PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, and AZ Alkmaar. If Sadiq can replicate this kind of form in the Scottish Premiership then the Light Blues might just have a new fan favourite on their hands with yet another gem of a signing.
