Steven Gerrard has revealed that he is targeting two more Rangers signings this summer, while admitting the deal for Manchester City’s Kean Bryan is dead.

The Gers boss will look elsewhere for a left-sided centre half after pulling the plug on the deal for Bryan, 21, while he has also said he wants a new striker as well.

“You can see quite clearly that we need a centre-back so that is definitely an area that we are trying to add in. I need a centre-half and a striker. I am in a rush,” he told the Scottish Sun.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t get an agreement with Kean [Bryan]. He wants to keep his options open and we respect that.”

Gerrard refused to clarify Rangers’ stance on forward Kyle Lafferty however, amidst talk of the Northern Irishman returning to Ibrox: “Have we made a bid? I have got nothing to say about it, he is a Hearts player.”

OPINION

Rangers fans will be pleased to see Gerrard being so active in the transfer window this summer. The club have made ten signings already and the Liverpudlian clearly isn’t finished yet. This was a squad that needed some work if it was to meet supporters’ expectations, so two more additions definitely wouldn’t go amiss. Gerrard’s admission that he wants a striker comes in the wake of a reported £200,000 bid for Kyle Lafferty which was rejected by Hearts. Where the club goes in terms of a centre back following the failed Bryan deal remains to be seen, but like Gerrard said: he is in a rush. Gers get their Scottish Premiership season underway away at Aberdeen next Sunday, so the manager would ideally want any new recruits in place before that encounter. The club may find it tough to sign quality players in the positions they require at this late stage of the window, but it sounds like Gerrard will keep trying right up until close of business.
