Rangers are expected to complete the signing of defender Kean Bryan from Manchester City today (Thursday), according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims via their website that Bryan is set to join the Light Blues on a permanent deal, worth £16,000-a-week.

It is understood he is going to agree a three-year deal with Rangers, amounting to £2.5million once he leaves Premier League champions Manchester City.

Bryan spent last season on loan at Oldham and while he is usually a holding midfielder, he played mostly as a centre-back during his temporary spell away from the Eithad.

Good move for Rangers?

Not many people will have heard of Bryan outside of Oldham.

He has never made a senior appearance for Man City and despite Patrick Vieira reportedly tipping him to reach the top, he has not exactly met those expectations.

Rangers will be a good move for him, but it is going to be a steep learning curve to go from League One to the Scottish Premiership, where expectations will be increasingly high at Ibrox this season due to the arrival of Steven Gerrard.

Can Bryan step up to the challenge? It remains to be seen, but this deal is probably Gerrard’s third-choice after the likes of Jake Cooper and Curtis Tilt.

Likely to happen?

Rangers have seemingly pulled off this deal out of nowhere, but Gerrard has been in the hunt for a new centre-back for weeks and Bryan is more than likely going to be the man to come in.

It looks as though he is going to be made a Gers player by the end of play on Thursday, and it would be a welcome boost if the club was able to also beat Osijek in the Europa League.
