Anthony Martial’s three-year stint at Manchester United looks likely to end after making up his own mind to leave Manchester United’s training camp in LA, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper claimed on their website that the 22-year-old Frenchman flew to Paris for the birth of his baby son which disappointed manager Jose Mourinho, who was angered about the late notice he was given from the forward even after Martial’s motivations to be with his partner.

Martial is unlikely to be returning to the States and is rumoured to be leaving Man United this summer despite The Guardian claiming that he was listed on the club’s website to be available for their evening tie against Milan.

OPINION

The forward’s decision to return to his native country is a huge blow for Jose Mourinho as the Frenchman was one of few United players to have featured at this summer’s World Cup. Martial has managed to feature against Club America and San Jose in pre-season friendlies whilst a number of squad members have been recovering from international duties. Martial’s agent has said that the 22-year-old is keen on a move away from Old Trafford and the decision to fly home without the manager’s permission highlights an unsteady relationship between the player and coach. His career at United has faltered since Mourinho took over from Louis van Gaal two years ago, with the Portuguese boss fielding the Frenchman on the wing instead of his preferred position and believing he lacks mental strength. After a promising start to life in Manchester, it would be a bitter disappointment for the Red Devil supporters if Martial, still in his early playing days, were to leave Old Trafford.
