Rangers’ plans to offload goalkeeper Wes Foderingham have taken a blow after it was confirmed that Ipswich have agreed a new deal with Bartosz Bialkowski.

The English Championship club announced via their official website on Monday that Bialkowski, 31, has signed a new three-year contract, with the option of an extra 12 months – and that deal has a major impact on what the Gers were planning to do this summer.

The East Anglian Daily Times reported earlier this month that Ipswich would try to sign Foderingham, 27, this summer if Bialkowski is sold as he had entered the final year of his contract.

It was understood that Steven Gerrard had told the Ibrox senior player to find a new club before the transfer window closes as he has dropped down the pecking order since Allan McGregor’s return to Glasgow.

Jak Alnwick is also on the books at Rangers, so that leaves Gerrard with three first team shot-stoppers, meaning that Foderingham is the unlucky one who has to leave.

However now it seems that the chances of him leaving, for at least Ipswich, have taken a blow, and that could mean that Gerrard’s transfer budget will not receive a welcome boost by offloading the ex-Swindon shot-stopper.

It is imperative that Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen clear out the undesirables before the start of next season, because Rangers no longer should be dealing with free-loaders and passengers.

While Foderingham has been a quality goalkeeper for the Govan club over the last few years, he is no longer needed and the Gers must up their efforts to sell him.
