Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Paulo Alves from Liverpool.

The 20-year-old joins Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on a two-year contract after his deal with the Reds expired.

The Midlands club confirmed the news via their official Twitter account.

The Portuguese youngster made 12 appearances for the Liverpool Under-23 side last season, helping them to a second-place finish in Division 1 of the Premier League 2.

Wolves’ Portuguese connection continues. First, it was their manager Nuno Espirito Santo and now a year later, they have a raft of Portuguese talent in their squad. The Midlands club already boasts the likes of Ivan Caveliero, Helder Costa, Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves, but this season they’ve also signed Ruben Vinagre, Rui Patricio and now Paulo Alves. That’s some serious ability in a squad that’s only just been promoted to the Premier League. Signing youngsters from a top-six club can go one of two ways, either the player wants to leave to get more football or the player simply isn’t good enough to breathe through, Wolves will be hoping it’s the latter in Alves’ case. The 20-year-old will add to an already talented youth system at Molineux and Nuno has shown his desire to give young players opportunities, so the midfielder may make first-team appearances much sooner here than he would have at Anfield.
