As West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini continues his summer transfer window spree, the Chilean may want to take a look at signing Luke Shaw.

West Ham need to build on their defence after a difficult league campaign last year and the Manchester United left-back is a player that Pellegrini should aim to target.

If the former Manchester City boss is keen play with three central defenders and two wing-backs, bringing in another left sided defender might just feature highly on his wish-list.

Aaron Cresswell, West Ham’s first choice for left-back was deployed into a central defensive role last season and could be due to play in a similar position under Pellegrini.

The 23-year-old is likely to leave Old Trafford, according to a report from BBC Sport, after criticism from manager Jose Mourinho and West Ham should act upon that by luring Shaw to the London Stadium.

Shaw joined United from Southampton in  2014 for £27 million, then a world record transfer fee for a teenager, according to BBC Sport, but he has been unable to solidify a spot in the first-team for the Red Devils.

Shaw is still very young and, despite being sidelined for months after breaking his leg, still has a lot to offer at the very highest level and a move away from United could be just what he needs to help restart what was a promising career.

The seven-capped England international is a solid defender and would be an ideal fit for the Hammers. He is a valuable asset when going forward along with his defending ability which was a main reason for Man United spending so much money for him.
