West Ham have been in talks with Ligue 1 side Lille over a potential loan swoop for right back Kevin Malcuit this summer, according to France Football.

The reputable French publication claim on their website that the Hammers are one of a number of clubs, including Premier League and London rivals Fulham, who are plotting a raid for the speedy defender, and that while a swoop is currently on ice, a loan move could be sealed before the end of the summer window.

The 26-year-old flyer, who can also play in a more advanced role up the right flank, enjoyed a productive campaign with Lille last season, assisting five goals in 25 appearances.

Good move for West Ham?

With Pablo Zabaleta not getting any younger, some reinforcements on the right hand side of the defence would not go amiss for Manuel Pellegrini this summer, and Malcuit certainly fits the bill.

Fast, fit and with a chance to be a threat in the opposition half, his talents would help the Hammers in both attack and defence, in a way the Argentine defender has done over the years at Manchester City.

A loam means there is a lack of commitment, ideal after spending as much money as they have, and it means they bring in a talented defender for a marginal price.

Likely to happen?

Why Lille would want to send him out on loan is another question entirely.

He is an important member of the squad and they would not want to lose him for a pittance, and so it may be that the French side demand a transfer fee if they are going to sanction his exit.

With so many clubs chasing his capture, this one might be a move the Hammers decide to shelve permanently.
