Leeds United’s reported bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ left back Barry Douglas is worth in the region of £5million, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reporter, one of the most reputed writers covering events at Elland Road, claims on his personal Twitter account that the Whites have tabled the seven figure offer to the Championship title winners as Marcelo Bielsa looks to bring in his third signing of the summer.

Douglas, whose contract runs out in 2019, was one of Wolves’ stand out performers on the way to the second tier title, ending the campaign with a club-high amount of assists with 15, two more than closest rival Ivan Cavaleiro.

Good move for Leeds?

With that proven record and what seems to be a bargain price tag on the table, Leeds could well have found themselves one of the bargains of the summer in Douglas.

He was one of the best Championship players around last season and you can see just how much Wolves relied on his deliveries to help the forwards fire the club back to the Premier League with a title win.

If he can replicate that form while at Elland Road, the Whites will have a serious talent on their hands and opponents will find them difficult to stop with Marcelo Bielsa in charge.

Some might say Leeds are overspending on a 27-year-old with a year left on his contract, but this really is a steal.

Likely to happen?

There are reports out there claiming that the bid has been accepted and that personal terms are being negotiated, so it certainly looks that way.

Of course, nothing is ever simple at Leeds and what looks to be a done deal can collapse at any moment, so there will be some trepidation.

All being well though, Douglas is swapping old gold for the white shirts of Leeds.
