After last summer saw Leeds United experiment with a number of foreign striker arrivals – a move which failed to deliver the desired result – Marcelo Bielsa will be looking for some proven Championship experience to lead the line.

The likes of Jay-Roy Grot, Pawel Cibicki and Caleb Ekuban were all brought in to try and bolster the attack at Elland Road, but not a single one hit the ground running with some bitterly disappointing performances over the last 12 months.

It would be a huge surprise if the aforementioned trio remained at the club come the end of the summer transfer window, but it would be even more of a shock if they did not bring in at least one new recruit up top.

One man who looks as though he could be on the move is West Ham hitman Jordan Hugill, with reporter Alan Nixon claiming that Leeds’ Championship rivals have held talks over bringing the 26-year-old back to the Championship, just six months after leaving Preston North End for the Hammers.

With 100 Championship appearances and 20 second tier goals under his belt, Hugill would fit the bill of a proven talent for Leeds, and as such they must be thinking about hijacking QPR’s loan discussions.

His time in the Premier League has not gone to plan and he has managed just three top flight appearances, so it should come as no surprise the Irons are keen on sending him out on a temporary basis.

With price tags for strikers hitting mega-money fees in recent transfer windows, a loan for Hugill would give Leeds what they need without breaking the bank.
