Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs to have joined the chase with Everton in a bid to land the signature of Celtic defender Kieran Tierney, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper reports on their website that Everton have initially made a move for the dazzling left-sided flyer with a rejected bid, but it now appears as though their Premier League rivals, including Spurs, have joined the race to land the coveted left-back.

Tierney, said to be rated at £25million by the Glasgow side, signed a new six-year deal with the Hoops in October 2017 and has made over 100 appearances for the club at the age of 21, and now faces the prospect of joining the Premier League amid this strong interest.

OPINION

The addition of Spurs into the mix for the services of Tierney has now thrown Everton’s move for him into serious doubt. The Toffees were hoping to land the Scotland international to be a long-term replacement for 33-year-old left-back Leighton Baines, but that is now looking increasingly unlikely as time passes. Tottenham are in a good move to hijack Everton’s move for Tierney – and they may be able to lure him with the guarantee of finishing in the top-six, as well as European football. Spurs are undoubtedly looking for a replacement for England’s Danny Rose, who has had a dip in form recently. However, a move for Alex Grimaldo seems to be the more viable option for the club, who will offer more attacking threat than what Tierney could be able to offer them. Tottenham may have to decrease their interest in him and sign Grimaldo instead, and let Everton win this race.
